John Dutton – Owner, Guide, Bus Driver

John grew up on Vancouver Island where he spent time playing in the rivers, oceans and mountains. As a young adult he was drawn to Nelson, BC for its excellent back country skiing, whitewater rafting, whitewater kayaking and by its vibrant sense of community. Now he’s living his dream of operating Nelson Whitewater Rafting in the summer months and working as a back country ski guide at Monashee Powder Snowcats in the winter.

Kyle Gorenko – River Manager (Upper Management) & Lead Guide

After his two years taking the Adventure Studies Program at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, Kyle moved to Nelson permanently. And, after a winter of not working very hard and skiing a lot he is back with Nelson Whitewater Rafting and has been promoted to “Upper Management”. Originally from Vancouver Island, Kyle is passionate about the outdoors and loves sharing that passion with others! When he’s not working Kyle enjoys hiking, skiing, camping, kayaking, and rocking out on his guitar (chances are when there’s open mic or karaoke in town you’ll find him there).

Spencer Blair – Senior Guide

Spencer hails from the west coast town of Sechelt, BC, where he was raised on a mountain bike. In 2018 after graduating from an adventure tourism operations program in Golden, BC, he found a new passion in whitewater rafting. Off the clock, Spencer is likely playing guitar, rocking karaoke night, or adventuring with his dog Lou.

Marc Thibault – Celebrity Guide

Marc is a family man, and has a regular job working for the City of Nelson Fire Department. His schedule is quite flexible, so he is able to find time to guide for Nelson Whitewater Rafting each summer. After several seasons of rafting experience on the Ottawa River and Kickinghorse River during his whitewater hay day Marc brings a lot of experience to the guiding team.

Tye Woodruff – Guide

Tye is originally from up North and grew up on a house by the water in Charlie Lake, BC. Three years ago he moved to Vancouver Island to attend university at VIU in Nanaimo and to play rugby. There he took advantage of the warm weather and the opportunity to play in water all year round by becoming a part time employee at his schools outdoor recreation program. After discovering you could make a career out of outdoor recreation he jumped into it with both feet and hasn’t looked back since.

Edith – Guide

Edith is from Matane, Quebec and started coming to BC in 2008. She has fallen in love with this province after spending time fruit picking, travelling and adventuring all throughout BC and western Canada. Edith also went to Thompson River’s University to study adventure guiding. After spending the winter in the United States tending to elephants retired from the circus, she is happy to be back in beautiful BC and guiding on the Slocan River.

Maddy Marchildon – Guest Service

Originally from Ottawa, Ontario Maddy moved to Nelson in 2015 to pursue her love of skiing. As much as she likes to engage herself in the outdoors Maddy also likes to stimulate her brain. She is going into her second year of engineering and is planning to study at the University of Victoria in the fall. When she is not working or studying Maddy likes to go hiking, eat good food (five cent candies are her favourite) and her guilty pleasure is watching reality TV shows.

Codi-Lee Richardson – Guest Service

Codi joined the Guest Service team last year and has graciously joined us again this summer. She is originally from Ontario and has been calling BC home since 2011. When Codi isnt working you can find her outside hiking in the mountains, chasing waterfalls or catching some rays at the lake.
