We couldn’t have done it without the excellent staff and guides who have worked with us over the years and we really enjoyed showcasing them and their awesomeness on our social media pages, and

They are the true backbones of NWRC. Working hard each day to ensure all of our guests had truly the best time, creating new memories with your friends and family alike. Which brings us to the next thing we are grateful for, You guys! our guests, our fellow rafters. Thank you all so much for joining us on the river, whether it was kayaking on the Salmo River years past, rafting the Facchina rapids, or coming down to the marina and heading out for a paddle. We loved being able to take you on an adventure  and showcasing our beautiful area at the same time. We hope you all loved it as much as we do and hope to see you again next year! Cheers to 10 Years of Rafting!

Exciting Start to the 2019 Whitewater Rafting Season

Facchina Rapids

Facchina Rapids – July 1

With the heat of summer finally upon us, Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. is reflecting on what an awesome June we’ve had. So far, on their tours our rafters have spotted osprey, bald eagles, elk and even black bears! There is really no better way to experience the beautiful Slocan River and beat the summer heat than taking in the sights, sounds and thrills of rafting through the River’s class 2 and 3 rapids on our Facchina Rapids Trip!

Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. is part of the Adventure Alliance, a trio of adventure tourism operators that give people a variety of ways to explore all the beautiful terrain Nelson has to offer. Whether it’s zip-lining through Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park’s magnificent old growth forest with Kokanee Mountain Zipline, or exploring underground caves created by glacier waters with Cody Cave Tours, you’re guaranteed an unrivaled experience of Nelson.

The Final Dog Days of Summer

The last long weekend of the summer is upon us, but it is not quite the end for Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. We’re operating our rafting trips daily right until the middle of September, which means you still have time to get out on the river.

It has been an awesome season getting everyone  out on the Slocan River for our Scenic Float  and Facchina Rapids trip.  June was  full of high water and adrenaline junkies, with  rafts and rafters  alike being fully submerged in  the fast flowing river.  July and August were chock full of families, first time rafters and lots of white water surfing!

We also loved getting people out on the west arm of Kootenay Lake for a kayak or stand up paddle, it truly is a great activity for all abilities, and another cool way to experience life here in Nelson. Our office at the Prestige Marina will be open weekends and Matt will be here to set you up with your kayak or paddle board needs.

We saw so many happy faces this summer and hope to see some more as we wind up the remaining of the 2018 season this September, whether it is on our river trips or heading out on Kootenay Lake for a paddle.

Facchina Rapids – August 16th, 2:30pm

Adventure Alliance – An Elemental Experience

With safety and fun as a top priority for all four businesses, the Nelson Adventure Alliance was a logical assembly of elemental forces. Earth, Air and Water are all on the menu when visiting Nelson’s effervescent adventure scene. Go underground with Cody Caves to feel the earth beneath and above you, explore stalactites, stalagmites and calcite. Slither through the depths of the mountain into pockets of geological magic and impressive passage ways. Fun for all ages, this excursion is something we wouldn’t want you to squeeze past. 😉

After the awe-inspiring and ancient beauty of Cody Caves, take to the sky with Kokanee Mountain Zipline Tours. This fully guided tour takes you through the Kokanee Creek Canyon on another level…literally. Get the penthouse tour of the stunning canopy and watch as you glide over mother nature’s finest at high speeds. If you have a need for speed and are into low contact adventure, this is just for you!

Our mountains are rich with stunning waterfalls and our valley’s filled with surging rivers. Follow Kokanee Creek to Kootenay Lake and stop in at Nelson Paddleboard and Kayak Rentals for a leisurely paddle on the lake. Located just below the heart of Nelson, it’s an easy way to enjoy the lake with a little bit of human power.

Lake paddling a little too mellow for the adrenaline seeker in you? Hop in a raft with Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. and explore class 2- 3 rapids on the Slocan River Facchina Rapids tour. Experienced guides take you for a wild ride down one of the most pristine rivers in this corner of paradise. Safety first and fun second, this is a no brainer summer activity to beat the heat and enjoy a few laughs with our first class team. Having a Dabble at Whitewater Rafting

Here at Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. we get to play on the water all summer long. So we make sure to keep you updated on all the things we see and do out there. But occasionally our guests put together their thoughts on what it’s like to come rafting with us.

Sam Hergott is the author of the Kootenay based blog, Just Dabbling Along. As a self described ‘dabbler’, Sam recently had a dabble at whitewater rafting, bringing her family along on our Facchina Rapids tour. Sam recounted the adventure and her impressions of the day in her latest blog post, Family Adventure With The Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co.‘ including a ton of photos from their trip.

“We had a very enjoyable time floating on the beautiful river, enjoying the gorgeous day and chatting with our funny and amiable guide Jerome…We came around a bend in the river and all of a sudden we could hear what sounded like a waterfall. We were about to experience the Facchina Rapids whitewater!”

You’ll also find lots of other great stories about local destinations as well as plenty of tips and ideas for the modern homesteader.

We’d love to hear more stories from our guests! Let us know your thoughts and impressions by leaving us a review on TripAdvisor or Facebook, or contact us if you have mentioned us in a blog or article.

British Columbia is currently experiencing wildfires across certain parts of the province. Our thoughts are with our friends, colleagues and all those in the affected areas. With the fire situation developing as the weather changes and crews working to contain them, it’s important to stay up to date with current information. Kootenay Rockies Tourism recently updated their current wildfire info bulletin:

“Currently the Kootenay Rockies region is not affected by the wildfire activity in the province.  All our highways in and out of the region are open and operating with normal traffic flow.”

When planning your travels this Summer, keep abreast of the latest information from BC Wildfire Service and Drive BC. We hope these fires will soon be under control and both locals and visitors can return to the affected areas!

How are you celebrating Canada Day 150 in Nelson?

June 30, 2017

This year’s Canada Day marks the sesquicentennial anniversary of confederation… but most importantly it marks the real start of Summer. Both locals and visitors to Nelson love to make the most of the warm weather and long daylight by getting outdoors and checking out some of the nearby activities.

Those that like to get the toughest part of the day out of the way early head to nearby Pulpit Rock where gulps for air and burning legs are soothed by cool winds and spectacular views of downtown Nelson. With sunrise set for 4:47am on Canada Day, make sure you set an alarm if you want to catch the first morning rays.

Nelson’s Lakeside Park is a popular destination, playing host to fireworks, market booths, a sandcastle competition and cake! It also boasts plenty of shady spots for families to picnic and the lake provides a refreshing dip for those that like to splash about.

Temperatures are set to hit 29˚C on Saturday. So we’re going to do what Nelson Whitewater Rafting and Nelson Paddleboard and Kayak Rentals do best; get out on the water! We have whitewater rafting trips going down the Slocan River’s cool waters all weekend long. For those who like to take fate into their own hands, starting July 4 we will start running our inflatable kayak trips down the Class II and III Facchina Rapids.

Don’t feel like tackling the rapids, but still keen to dip your toes? Kayak and paddleboards are available to rent for 1 hour, 2 hours or all day from our downtown marina office. We are located behind the Prestige Lakeside Resort just minutes from downtown Baker Street, perfect if you need to clear your head after a morning visiting stores.

This year’s Canada Day has been 150 years in the making, so get out there and make the most of it!
