They are the true backbones of NWRC. Working hard each day to ensure all of our guests had truly the best time, creating new memories with your friends and family alike. Which brings us to the next thing we are grateful for, You guys! our guests, our fellow rafters. Thank you all so much for joining us on the river, whether it was kayaking on the Salmo River years past, rafting the Facchina rapids, or coming down to the marina and heading out for a paddle. We loved being able to take you on an adventure  and showcasing our beautiful area at the same time. We hope you all loved it as much as we do and hope to see you again next year! Cheers to 10 Years of Rafting!

Exciting Start to the 2019 Whitewater Rafting Season

Facchina Rapids

Facchina Rapids – July 1

With the heat of summer finally upon us, Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. is reflecting on what an awesome June we’ve had. So far, on their tours our rafters have spotted osprey, bald eagles, elk and even black bears! There is really no better way to experience the beautiful Slocan River and beat the summer heat than taking in the sights, sounds and thrills of rafting through the River’s class 2 and 3 rapids on our Facchina Rapids Trip!

Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. is part of the Adventure Alliance, a trio of adventure tourism operators that give people a variety of ways to explore all the beautiful terrain Nelson has to offer. Whether it’s zip-lining through Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park’s magnificent old growth forest with Kokanee Mountain Zipline, or exploring underground caves created by glacier waters with Cody Cave Tours, you’re guaranteed an unrivaled experience of Nelson.

The Final Dog Days of Summer

The last long weekend of the summer is upon us, but it is not quite the end for Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. We’re operating our rafting trips daily right until the middle of September, which means you still have time to get out on the river.

It has been an awesome season getting everyone  out on the Slocan River for our Scenic Float  and Facchina Rapids trip.  June was  full of high water and adrenaline junkies, with  rafts and rafters  alike being fully submerged in  the fast flowing river.  July and August were chock full of families, first time rafters and lots of white water surfing!

We also loved getting people out on the west arm of Kootenay Lake for a kayak or stand up paddle, it truly is a great activity for all abilities, and another cool way to experience life here in Nelson. Our office at the Prestige Marina will be open weekends and Matt will be here to set you up with your kayak or paddle board needs.

We saw so many happy faces this summer and hope to see some more as we wind up the remaining of the 2018 season this September, whether it is on our river trips or heading out on Kootenay Lake for a paddle.

Facchina Rapids – August 16th, 2:30pm

Adventure Alliance – An Elemental Experience

With safety and fun as a top priority for all four businesses, the Nelson Adventure Alliance was a logical assembly of elemental forces. Earth, Air and Water are all on the menu when visiting Nelson’s effervescent adventure scene. Have an adventure feast at any of the following businesses and receive an Adventure Alliance discount at any of the other three because it’s important to us that you make the most of your time here in Nelson.

Slither through the depths of the mountain into pockets of geological magic and impressive passage ways. Fun for all ages, this excursion is something we wouldn’t want you to squeeze past. 😉

After the awe-inspiring and ancient beauty of Cody Caves, take to the sky with Kokanee Mountain Zipline Tours. This fully guided tour takes you through the Kokanee Creek Canyon on another level…literally. Get the penthouse tour of the stunning canopy and watch as you glide over mother nature’s finest at high speeds. If you have a need for speed and are into low contact adventure, this is just for you!

Our mountains are rich with stunning waterfalls and our valley’s filled with surging rivers. Follow Kokanee Creek to Kootenay Lake and stop in at Nelson Paddleboard and Kayak Rentals for a leisurely paddle on the lake. Located just below the heart of Nelson, it’s an easy way to enjoy the lake with a little bit of human power.

Lake paddling a little too mellow for the adrenaline seeker in you? Hop in a raft with Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. and explore class 2- 3 rapids on the Slocan River Facchina Rapids tour. Experienced guides take you for a wild ride down one of the most pristine rivers in this corner of paradise. Safety first and fun second, this is a no brainer summer activity to beat the heat and enjoy a few laughs with our first class team. Study up before you come, the music trivia on the bus ride over is absolutely priceless.

Having a Dabble at Whitewater Rafting

Here at Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co. we get to play on the water all summer long. So we make sure to keep you updated on all the things we see and do out there. But occasionally our guests put together their thoughts on what it’s like to come rafting with us.

Sam Hergott is the author of the Kootenay based blog, Just Dabbling Along. As a self described ‘dabbler’, Sam recently had a dabble at whitewater rafting, bringing her family along on our Facchina Rapids tour. Sam recounted the adventure and her impressions of the day in her latest blog post, Family Adventure With The Nelson Whitewater Rafting Co.‘ including a ton of photos from their trip.

“We had a very enjoyable time floating on the beautiful river, enjoying the gorgeous day and chatting with our funny and amiable guide Jerome…We came around a bend in the river and all of a sudden we could hear what sounded like a waterfall. We were about to experience the Facchina Rapids whitewater!”

You’ll also find lots of other great stories about local destinations as well as plenty of tips and ideas for the modern homesteader.

We’d love to hear more stories from our guests! Let us know your thoughts and impressions by leaving us a review on TripAdvisor or Facebook, or contact us if you have mentioned us in a blog or article.

When planning your travels this Summer, keep abreast of the latest information from BC Wildfire Service and Drive BC. We hope these fires will soon be under control and both locals and visitors can return to the affected areas!

As water levels change on the Slocan River, certain features transform. Waves appear or disappear. Rocks emerge, adding a more technical element to the trip.  The amazing thing is, no matter what the level, the river has excitement to offer! At the moment, the Facchina Rapids are the perfect water level to surf Turbo Cranker wave with the rafts. Whether it’s swimming through Elevator Rapid, playing rodeo, or crashing through Turbo Cranker, the Slocan River just keeps on giving!

Did you know? The motions involved in paddling over rapids are said to strongly increase your muscular and cardiovascular strength. Doing something different from the normal rejuvenates and relaxes our minds, especially for some of us who spend a majority of their time working indoors and in busy city centers. They say, a positive change is as good as a rest.

If you haven’t yet experienced a ride on Nelson Whitewater Rafting’s rad bus ‘The Woody’, then you’re definitely missing out! It was redesigned from an old retro school bus and fitted with all the gear necessary for our rafting trips. You certainly can’t miss our blue and white company colors and the funky wood panelling that lines the sides. As the music plays and the fun starts, it’s a ride you won’t soon forget!

With the weather forecast predicting rain through out the week, it may put a damper on many peoples summer plans. Fortunately, the rain doesn’t slow down our awesome whitewater rafting tours! Since you’re bound to be soaked head to toe anyways, what’s a little rain gonna hurt?

July 20, 2014

The beauty of the Kootenays in the summertime never fails to amaze me. Whether it’s hiking, biking, swimming, paddling or whitewater rafting, the Kootenays has incredible places to explore. Around every corner there are forests to ride through, views to be contemplated and rivers to meander down. If you haven’t gone on a Kootenay adventure yet this summer, get up and go exploring!

Many people feel fearful before heading out on their first rafting trip, but fear is a natural reaction to something unfamiliar. If you don’t embrace those feelings and push through them with excitement, many people miss out on adventures in their lives they wish they had experienced earlier. More often than not, by the end of the day, the nervous people are the ones who had the most fun and are the happiest about their decision to join us on a whitewater rafting adventure!

Tomorrow is the start of an awesome little 3-day music festival held in Crawford Bay, BC called StarBelly Jam! The festival features a large variety of unique bands and is very family friendly, with lots of room for little ones to play. When the heat starts to get to you, take a break, head to the river, and join us for some refreshing whitewater rafting!

July 13, 2014

This week the river has been our place of refuge from the steady +30 heat. We’ve shed our wetsuits and been enjoying going skin to wind and cooling off in the whitewater of the Facchina Rapids. The Slocan River is the place to be!

July 6, 2014

Our rafts have been full of smiling faces this past week. Thanks to all you fantastic people who have come out on the water with us and shared in the fun. The forecast calls for another week of glorious sunshine- Let the good times roll!

June 29, 2014

We’ve had a great week of whitewater rafting on both the Salmo River Shenango Canyon and the Slocan River Facchina Rapids. We couldn’t ask for better weather! I’ts been pouring rain at night to keep water levels awesome and sunbathing us by day. Ahh, this is the life!

June 23, 2014

What a great summer solstice in Nelson this weekend. We rocked full rafts down the thrilling whitewater of the Shenango Canyon, and put a smile on everyone’s face. The summer is off to a great start!

June 16, 2014

It wasn’t the best weather in Nelson this weekend, but whitewater rafting is one of the best activities to do in poor weather. We get wet head to toe no matter the weather conditions, and keep well prepared with wet suits, fleeces and splash tops when necessary to stay comfortable. The forecast looks great for the upcoming weekend, and that’s even better.

June 9, 2014

We had a great weekend out on the Salmo River. Awesome river levels and great weather for whitewater rafting. One of our trips was a staff party for Shoe La La here in Nelson. A great team building experience for them.

June 1, 2014

The first week of June is forecast to have beautiful weather and the river levels are excellent for our first week of whiteater rafting of the season. Our good friend Flo Scharlock is coming to town to guide some trips after a busy spring teaching rafting, swiftwater rescue and whitewater kayaking courses with the Thompson Rivers University Adventure Guide Program. It will be great to have him on the water with us.

May 26, 2014

On Thursday we did our whitewater guide’s training rafting the Salmo River. The river level was high as were our adrenaline levels. After rafting the canyon twice, doing some whitewater swimming drills, raft flip practice and throw bagging in one of the rapids we headed back to Nelson for a raft guide’s BBQ. It was a great day on the river.

May 20, 2014

Another volunteer effort we think is a good thing to do is our annual river clean up by raft with the ATLAS students from the local high school LV Rogers. Students are taught about river safety while rafting down the river and picking up garbage and litter to keep it as clean and beautiful as possible. Check out the photos page to see what we accomplished.

May 10, 2014

Today we volunteered our time and equipment to help out the Salmo Streamkeepers with an event they organized call the Salmo Century. We took a bunch of local artists down the upper sectin of the Salmo River. It was a beautiful trip. We saw some Harlequin Ducks, Bald Eagles and rafted a little bit of class 2 whitewater.
